Feel good hits of the 30th July

1. 'Poison Arrow' - Sonic Youth
2. 'Come Saturday' - The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart
3. 'Also Frightened' - Animal Collective
4. 'Y Control' - Yeah Yeah Yeahs
5. 'Two Weeks' - Grizzly Bear
6. 'Then She Did' - Jane's Addiction
7. 'New Age' - Sleepy Sun
8. 'Surf Solar' - Fuck Buttons
9. 'I Want You To Know' - Dinosaur Jr
10. 'Quiet Little Voices' - We Were Promised Jetpacks

Notes:

1. Just can't get enough of The Eternal. Ruddy marvellous, and best of all I've got it to look forward to live at the end of the year.

2. First reaction on listening to the album: not bad at all. Second reaction: this is SO unbelievably wet. Third reaction: but it's damn good.

3. 'Also Frightened' has really benefitted from being positioned between 'My Girls' and 'Summertime Clothes' - it's had a lot of airplay in the house as a direct result.

5. Here it is as performed on Later With The Poisoned Dwarf Of Boogie-Woogie. Veckatimest is high on the shopping list.

7. Good live, very good live. Well, at least, that's according to friends who caughty them in Cardiff during their brief UK jaunt while I was out of the country.

8. 'Surf Solar' is the lead track and first single from forthcoming new Andrew Weatherall produced album Tarot Sport, out in October, and there's a four-minute-long appetiser up on Pitchfork.

9. Farm - couldn't really be anyone other than Dinosaur Jr, could it? Solid, but yet to wow me - perhaps that'll change when I see them performing it live next month.

There is indeed a great song called "Poison Arrow," but it's by ABC and it came out in 1982.
