Quote of the day
"I wanna play Glastonbury because it's such a disaster camp and I really enjoy that. The general consensus among musicians I know is that it's like walking into the pit of hell, and in some way it really feels like that. People are traipsing through water-damaged tents and then you finally get on stage and you're so wrecked from the experience. You're lucky to get through any perceptible, decent set at all and then there are these huge roving cameras on stage that are spinning around documenting the disaster. There's something about that I find really charming."
If Thurston Moore's comments on Radio 6 are anything to go by, he clearly understands what Glastonbury is all about. Needless to say I've got everything crossed in the hope that the Eavises - well, Vince Power - grants them the opportunity to showcase forthcoming new album The Eternal at this year's shindig...
Gig-going may well be limited this year, but at least Glasto won't be my only festival experience of the year. The Breeders-curated ATP in May is likely prove to be far more sober and civilised - and less like a "disaster camp" - but, with the likes of Shellac, Gang Of Four, Holy Fuck, Foals, Deerhunter and CSS, it still promises to be very lively indeed.
