Feel good hits of the 23rd September
A bonus five today...
1. ‘Blueprint’ – Fugazi
2. ‘Fake Empire’ – The National
3. ‘Brace Yourself’ – Les Savy Fav
4. ‘I Heard Wonders’ – David Holmes
5. ‘Halfway Home’ – TV On The Radio
6. ‘Sugarcube’ – Yo La Tengo
7. ‘Night Walks’ – Black Mountain
8. ‘Sweet Love For Planet Earth’ – Fuck Buttons
9. ‘Disaster’ – The Besnard Lakes
10. ‘Soul On Fire’ – Spiritualized
11. ‘The Pulse’ – Holy Fuck
12. ‘Teenage Negasonic Warhead’ – Monster Magnet
13. ‘The Beach At Redpoint’ – Boards Of Canada
14. ‘Rocket’ – Smashing Pumpkins
15. ‘From The North’ – Apse
Notes:
1. I’ve got to get hold of a copy of Repeater…
5. Considering how long it took for the universally acclaimed Return To Cookie Mountain to sink in (and even now I’d say I’m more admiring of than smitten with it), Dear Science has made a much quicker impression.
6. Is there a better Yo La Tengo song? I’ve yet to find it.
7. In The Future, the album on which ‘Night Walks’ appears, is like a doped-out Dead Meadow featuring a tremulous-voiced PJ Harvey-esque waif covering the soundtrack to ‘War Of The Worlds’. With a couple of early My Morning Jacket cast-offs slipped in for good measure.
15. Incredibly, Apse’s Spirit makes In The Future sound about as prog as the theme tune to ‘Postman Pat’…

By the way, Anathallo are playing Oxford Regal on 19th November, with a possibility that their new album may be out by then.
Thanks for the tip-off, Simon - much appreciated. The Regal's the city's newest venue - off to see Rolo Tomassi there next month, and Don Caballero a week or so before Anathallo.
5. We are as one, about both albums.
6. I prefer "Cherry Chapstick," honestly, on a few different levels.
