And they call it "progress"...
Tuesday was a sad day for real ale fans in Cardiff, when the Glamorgan Staff Club was sold to an anonymous buyer for £700,000.
That the Club, which has been closed since October, would fetch a pretty sum at auction was never really in doubt, given its prime location opposite the Millennium Stadium. It's a terrible shame that its committee was unable to put together their own bid for the building to save it from the clutches of the developers, and now what was stuck in a timewarp like a boozer from 'Life On Mars' looks fated to be turned into - oh the surprise - "a trendy bar, modern office or apartments". Because that's what Cardiff city centre needs - less character.
Anyway, this post is just an excuse to remember how the old place was through my Achosion I Laweni piece celebrating its eccentric charms and Maciej Dakowicz's brilliant Flickr photos.
