Magic moments

Henri Cartier-Bresson famously argued that the photographer's objective should be to frame the "decisive moment" - that perfect split second when all of the disparate elements in front of the lens come together and resolve themselves into something special. On the evidence of his imminent exhibition at London gallery Huxley-Parlour, that's a view that Joel Meyerowitz would subscribe to.

Select Works, 1962-2019 features images that surprise and delight in the way that they capture things that might otherwise have been (in his words) "nearly invisible" - whether that's a cartoon character appearing to mockingly imitate a pedestrian's yawn, two golden bob haircuts contrasting against a green car, or the effects of sunlight on the built environment at different times of day.

The pictures showcased in this Guardian gallery exemplify wit, a keen eye and (of course) an impeccable sense of timing.
