Admittedly, it's somewhat unfair to continually gauge a band's latest release against their finest achievement, especially when that achievement was an incredible debut that seemed to come out of nowhere. Howling Bells' comeback effort Strange Life contains a number of strong songs, with appeal for fans of Mazzy Star and Angel Olsen's indie rock dabblings - but its flaws mean that it won't change the narrative that they peaked early.
