Pressing pause

Given how thrilling their new incarnation is live, with The St Pierre Snake Invasion's Damien Sayell on bass, the revelation that there's a new Mclusky album in the pipeline should be cause for serious celebration. Sadly, that's not the case, as Falco broke the news in a tweet announcing the postponement of the band's forthcoming US dates on medical grounds.

The problem is tinnitus and hyperacusis - or a very nasty case of fucked ears, in other words. Aside from the disappointment of fans across the Atlantic, the "financial fallout" is set to be "devastating" - especially on top of all of the other economic pressures that artists at their level are already facing.

Little wonder that Falco ended the announcement/apology by insisting on the value of ear protection. It's advice I really should heed - starting with the Cosmic Carnage all-dayer at the Moon tomorrow.

Best wishes to him for a swift recovery. Fingers crossed the financial hit doesn't turn out to be as severe as feared and the new record - also now on hold - emerges sooner rather than later. "We're going to do this thing, and do it right", he says. Let's cling onto that promise.
