While Tish Murtha's Elswick kids and the children in the pictures Nick Hedges took for Shelter may look as though they were growing up in a war zone, those Chris Steele-Perkins photographed in 1970s Belfast really were.
His new photobook The Troubles, published by Bluecoat, is a historical document of a dangerous time and place but also extraordinary childhoods, when - in the words of one of the kids, Adelaine Shannon, whom Steele-Perkins interviewed three decades later - fleeing gunshots and night-time raids on the family home "just became normal".
