Press gang

Once upon a time, the print music press really mattered - shaping tastes, breaking bands and making a significant contribution to (counter)cultural discourse. Those days are long gone, as was discussed by the panel for Episode 28 of Sounding Bored, recorded in April last year in the wake of the announcement that the NME was to cease print publication.

Now there's a new book edited by Mark Sinker, A Hidden Landscape Once A Week, that looks back on the golden age of the music press. With a list of illustrious contributors that includes Jon Savage, Bob Stanley, Charles Shaar Murray and Paul Morley, as well as friend of this 'ere blog Mike Troubled Diva, the volume was always going to vault straight to the top of my shopping list.
