According to Michael Gira, Swans' swansong, which he's currently mixing, "sounds like the musical equivalent of Ben-Hur. Ben-Hur coupled with Kurosawa's Ran." He never was one to think small, and so the fact that it will be "epic" is a given. Gira told Mojo that one song has "240 separate tracks" - eat your heart out, Kevin Shields.
Initial recordings were with indie/alternative producer/engineer extraordinaire John Congleton, though Gira and company wound up at Soundgarden's studio in Seattle. One of the tracks set to feature on the album is called 'The World Looks Red' - an allusion to 'World Looks Red' by New York contemporaries Sonic Youth, presumably.
