Billy Corgan and Bradford Cox are both somewhat notorious for letting their tongues disengage themselves from their brains - so when Cox sounded off about an alleged contretemps with Corgan from back in 2007, when Deerhunter were supporting Smashing Pumpkins, there was always likely to be fireworks.
Given Corgan's well-known egomania and disdain for other artists, Cox's account of events has the ring of truth about it - but the Pumpkins' manager responded in forthright terms, branding it "a complete fabrication", suggesting that there is video evidence that proves this, and threatening legal action. Perhaps unsurprisingly, an apologetic and sheepish Cox has been frightened into issuing a full retraction.
It'll be interesting to see if the video ever surfaces in the public realm...
