From sea to shining sea

Just as Stephen Fry In America did a few years back, Reginald D Hunter's Songs Of The South (review to appear here at some point) has got me fantasising about the idea of spending months exploring the US by road (and doing it in that massive red slab of a car). Given that we're currently the severely impecunious parents of a toddler, it's very much a long-term pipedream - but that hasn't stopped Jen from searching for a route we could take.
