Quote of the day

"It was simply about having adventures, one day at a time, one song at a time."

Sub Pop co-founder Bruce Pavitt scoffs at the notion that anyone involved in the early days of Seattle grunge might have harboured careerist aspirations.

Pavitt was talking to Pitchfork about the publication of his new book Experiencing Nirvana: Grunge In Europe, 1989, a collection of (unashamedly amateurish) tour photos as Sub Pop acts Tad and Nirvana made their way across Europe two years before Nevermind blew up. Even then, it seems, Kurt Cobain was a man near breaking point.
