Know Your Enemy

"Amazon has successfully fostered the idea that a book is a thing of minimal value."

Publisher Dennis Johnson, quoted in an excellent New Yorker article outlining the ambitious vision, attitudes and ruthless business practices that have helped make Amazon into the many-tentacled beast it is today. Selling books was only the starting point, and even then they clearly had little interest in the true value of books, only in their worth as a product.
