The year in pictures

As 2013 draws to a close, here's a gallery that shows how some of the year's most significant events have been expertly captured byphotographers. Sadly, it's the depressing nature of these things that the focus is on natural disasters and their miserable consequences. A few more positive images wouldn't have gone amiss - it's not been ALL bad, has it?
