Scratching a Hitch

I've never been a fan of Matthew Perry, largely on account of his involvement in Friends, but he was bound to go up in my estimation by making Peter Hitchens look ridiculous on Newsnight for espousing the view that drug addiction is "fantasy". Not that Hitchens needs much assistance, though, you understand.

Of course, it's not the first time that a comic actor has triumphed over Hitchens on the issue of drugs on the programme - Russell Brand got there first.

To be honest, having watched it, it looks like a no-score draw on 'performance' to me. Matthew Perry is too flippant half the time to really hit home and I say this as someone who rather likes 'Friends' and is very much NOT a fan of Hitchens.

I want people to make him look silly for his ridiculous views, but not sure I agree Perry achieved it.

Granted, Perry isn't as lucid and articulate as he could/should be, but he still helps to make Hitchens look like a pompous arsehole who has no idea what he's talking about.
