Given that SXSW is an increasingly corporate affair, by most accounts, it seems odd that this year's keynote speaker should have been selected as a shining example of DIY indie ethics, self-belief and self-determination. But Dave Grohl was probably right in assuming that, and spoke engagingly (if a little smugly - though he's entitled to that) on the subject, as well as radiating his general irrepressible passion for music. Nevermind was a Year Zero for so many people, myself included, so it's interesting to hear one of its creators talk about the critical moments in his own musical upbringing and development.
