It's
not every day you get to fight a real fire at work as well as the usual
metaphorical ones - but that's what happened on Wednesday.
You've seen Backdraft, right? Well, it was much
like that, except with no flames, no firemen and one pen-pusher/fire
marshall nervously trying to douse an enthusiastically smouldering
cigarette bin with water from a mop bucket without dousing himself. I still can't believe I didn't take the opportunity to wear my high-vis vest - that
would have added to my authoritative command of the situation.
It's not
for me to call myself a hero - that's for others to say. (That's what the comments box is there for.)
