"Steubenville is rape culture's Abu Ghraib moment. It’s the moment when
America and the world are being forced, despite ourselves, to confront
the real human horror of the rapes and sexual assaults that take place
in their thousands every day in our communities."
Laurie Penny's claims are overstated, perhaps, but her response to the court case is fuelled by righteous indignation - understandably so, given the horrific nature of the Steubenville case, and the fact that CNN appear to have joined friends and family in sympathising with the perpetrators rather than their victim. Anyone who thinks feminism has won all of the important battles and that anything else is a dead rubber is clearly sorely mistaken.
