The debate about Iceage's political affilations and personal beliefs refuses to die, with two writers for Everett True's latest venture Collapse Board, Louis Pattison and Scott Creney, trading blows before kissing and making up. Pattison's defence prompted a response from Creney, though the former did at least make some concession to the position of Creney and others like him (myself probably included): "As regards the way they chose to present themselves early on, they
certainly had some questions to answer. Personally, I don’t think
they’re racist OR stupid. Although I think being smart and naive can be a
pretty dangerous combination too."
Will that nagging doubt and discomfort stop me from buying their new record You're Nothing, which has been reviewed very enthusiastically and is the follow-up to a debut album I loved (New Brigade)? Possibly - but then their truly dire performance as headliners of last year's 1-2-3-4 Festival is just as likely to do that...
