Friend-of-a-friend Sophie Coulombeau succinctly sums up five years of my life. However, understanding what working towards a PhD in English Literature is really like is probably about all we have in common - this is someone who, while still engaged in her studies, managed to knock off a prize-winning novel that had everyone from Philip Pullman to the Independent purring. My own creative outpourings during the PhD period? Well, they're there in all their, ahem, glory in the sidebar to the right...
