Feel good hits of the 5th August

1. 'Queen Of Hearts' - Fucked Up
2. 'Unrequited Love' - Lykke Li
3. 'Plenty For All' - Hot Snakes
4. 'Arctic Snow' - Burning Brides
5. 'Flying Into The Sun' - Crystal Stilts
6. 'Mirrorball' - Nisennenmondai
7. 'Honey Bucket' - Melvins
8. 'I Knew It Was Over' - Cat's Eyes
9. 'Helplessness Blues' - Fleet Foxes
10. 'Ladder Song' - Bright Eyes

Notes:

1. David Comes To Life: if only all hardcore bands were this darned imaginative.

2. Wounded Rhymes takes Bat For Lashes' Two Suns, ditches the mysticism and ups the pop - to great effect.

3. and 6. Just two of the reasons I'm increasingly looking forwards to this year's ATP Nightmare Before Christmas.

4. A band probably unfairly forgotten. Where the hell does that thwacking great conclusion come from?!

5. Women's 'Black Rice' meets The Jesus & Mary Chain. Consider me sold on new album In Love With Oblivion already, and I haven't even got it yet. (That title helps too, mind.)

7. Here's the first in a sequence of videos in which King Buzzo explains how to play the song - but also talks a bit about Houdini in general and Nirvana, and laughs his extraordinary Krusty the Clown laugh.

8. Never been much of a fan of the Horrors (Primary Colours included), but as with Crystal Stilts, I was sold on the Cat's Eyes album on the strength of this alone. As one commenter on the YouTube video asks, how on earth did they get to do this at the Vatican?!

9. More of the same, essentially - but I'm not complaining.

10. The most conventionally Bright-Eyesy song on The People's Key, and arguably the highlight.
