Quote of the day

"'The consultation is going to be terminated,' a government source has said. A No 10 insider added: 'It's a cock-up. We just did not think.'"

A refreshingly frank (if not open and public) admission of misjudgement from the coalition government. Public outcry has forced David Cameron into abandoning plans to sell off swathes of state-owned woodland. That lady may not have been for turning, but it seems her latest successor certainly is. You can just imagine him sniffing "The people are revolting" as he pulled the embarrassing U-turn. Presumably we should all be too busy contributing to the Big Society to have spare time to enjoy woodland or to have even notice it was going to be flogged off on the sly.
