Speaking of which, Phonogram, the Britpop comic I was raving about a while back, gleefully casts Haines as the protagonist's Faustian guide. Which gives him a considerably bigger part than any of the other Britpop royalty who appear. Which is, ultimately, why it works...
I still haven't got it - just keep coming across choice quotes. Right, time to order it...
