Quote of the day

"Writing is like having a poo. If you don't need one, it's really difficult, but if you wait until your subconscious builds up and builds up, up to the point where you HAVE to go..."

Graham Linehan - responsible for 'Father Ted', 'Big Train' and other series - talking to Charlie Brooker in a special episode of 'Screenwipe'. The other TV writers interviewed were Russell T. Davies ('Doctor Who', 'Queer As Folk', 'Casanova'), Paul Abbott ('Shameless', 'State Of Play'), Tony Jordan ('EastEnders', 'Hustle', 'Life On Mars') and Jesse Armstrong and Sam Bain ('Peep Show'). Well worth a watch.

Which reminds me: I've been recommended the new series of Linehan's 'The IT Crowd'. After trying and disliking a couple of episodes in the first series, I abandoned any interest in it - time to revisit and reevaluate?

Yes, that was a fascinating Screenwipe, and a refreshing change from CB's usual schtick.

I can take or leave The IT Crowd. It passes the time pleasantly enough, but it's hardly Appointment TV.

Our favourite sitcoms of the moment could hardly be more different: Outnumbered (BBC1, Saturday night) and The Big Bang Theory (E4, midweek evenings, two in a row every week).

I'm a big fan of Brooker's "usual schtick", but I wasn't complaining about it being something different. Would have missed it if it hadn't have been for the joys of iPlayer - what a godsend...

Not heard of 'Outnumbered' (never seem to be in on a Saturday anyway), and I've not so much raised a smirk at any of the numerous trailers I've seen for 'The Big Bang Theory' - you'll have to go some to convince me it's worth a try...
