Quote of the day

"The people of Sark are reaping what they sowed the day before. They only have themselves to blame. They could have co-operated with Barclays Investment but they chose to obstruct it."

Gordon Dawes, the Telegraph-owning Barclay brothers' charming advocate, responds to the outcry at the news the pair are to make 100 residents of Sark redundant on the grounds that the islanders failed to support the brothers' pro-reform candidates in the first democratic elections for 450 years. Can't help but think that this betrays a fundamental inability to grasp the concept of democracy - as well as a nicely spiteful sense of timing, what with the island having no welfare state structure and Christmas just over a week away.

It makes more sense Ben if you insert a comma and the words 'Mr Bond' after the phrase 'the day before'.

Indeed.

I see the Barclays have, unsurprisingly, used the Torygraph as a platform from which to defend themselves. If they genuinely have no desire to "control" the island, then they're going a very funny way about showing it.
