Feel good hits of the 9th August

1. 'Black Lives At The Golden Coast' - The Icarus Line
2. 'Pioneer To The Falls' - Interpol
3. 'Sleeping Lessons' - The Shins
4. 'It's Me' - Dinosaur Jr
5. 'Be Prepared' - Shellac
6. 'Heartbreak Stroll' - The Raveonettes
7. 'Skylon' - Gruff Rhys
8. 'In Context' - Field Music
9. 'Freakin Out' - Graham Coxon
10. '100%' - Sonic Youth

I can honestly there's hardly been a moment since first hearing 'Black Lives At The Golden Coast' (the title track of The Icarus Line's characteristically messy latest album) that it and its lyrics haven't been rattling round in my head.

If that album as a whole is significantly tamer than their older material, it's safe to say that Excellent Italian Greyhound marks no such retreat from the edge for Shellac. Were I a betting man I'd put a wager on nine minute centrepiece 'Genuine Lulabelle' being the downright fucking weirdest song I'll hear all year.
