Date with the night

In recent years, our self-anointed Music City has suffered a succession of venue closures - so it's only right that we should celebrate one that's throwing open its doors rather than pulling down its shutters.

In truth, Carpe Noctem isn't entirely new, taking over the premises formerly occupied by legendary cabaret bar Minsky's. But the promise of an "independent underground electronic music venue located in the heart of Cardiff city centre" - one that will deliberately look both back into dance music's past and forward into its future, as well as providing a safe space for members of the LGBT community - is certainly to be welcomed.

Originally slated to open before the end of February, Carpe Noctem will now host its first guests on the first weekend of April - conveniently coinciding with the 6 Music Festival.
