Let's face it: I should have known Heavy Lungs long ago from their split single with fellow Bristolians Idles, or from the fact that the latter's 'Danny Nedelko' is a tribute to Heavy Lungs' frontman. But it was actually from seeing Fern Brady wearing one of their T-shirts on Taskmaster and being prompted to investigate. Never let it be said that wearable merch doesn't have a promotional/advertising effect.
Whatever. Saturday evening was my first up close and personal encounter with them, and it left a big impression on ears and brain - as, to be fair, did the formidable racket of noise-rock headliners Ditz.
