I came to this Vice article by Joe Zadeh expecting an affectionate insider's portrait of Rothbury, the picture-postcard village in my home county of Northumberland, but found something more profound: a poignant meditation on the convivial/tortuous closeness of rural communities, the intimate cross-generational family connection to place and the strength of the impulse to preserve the memory of loved ones.
