My, haven't you grown?

Thanks to Ian for pointing me in the direction of Popmatters, where they're marking the tenth birthday of Radiohead's Kid A with a series of special features.

The album - and particularly tracks like 'Idioteque' - was initially received with bafflement and dismay by many hoping for OK Computer Part 2. But over the last decade it's arguably proven itself to be more influential, horizon-broadening and mind-expanding than their 1997 masterpiece, to the extent that its qualities and reception demand and deserve just the sort of attention they're now getting from Popmatters writers, Ian included.

In other music news, the Guardian are reporting "Nirvana members reunite on Foo Fighters album". What this actually amounts to is that Kris(t) Novoselic will be making a guest appearance (as will Bob Mould), while Butch Vig is at the controls for what has been promised as their "heaviest album yet". And thank goodness - begone foul visions of Kurt Cobain's disinterred remains. That said, it could well still be a case of flogging a dead corpse - Dave Grohl's outfit have become tediously predictable (stagnating over the same period that Kid A has grown in repute) and no doubt much will be made of a newsworthy selling point...
