Know Your Enemy

"Basically its entire portrayal of female liberation is about the right to buy expensive shoes."

Mark Kermode gets stuck into Sex And The City 2, lambasting it as (amongst other things) "consumerist pornography". The ten-minute rant-review comes after he declares that he's not going to rant...

But even that pales in comparison with the write-up he mentions towards the end, Lindy West's piece for Seattle paper The Stranger. Probably not advisable to read her thoughts on what she calls "a home video of gay men playing with giant Barbie dolls" at work, if only for the fact that you'll likely spew coffee all over your keyboard. Her conclusion puts even the splenetic Kermode in the shade: "If this is what modern womanhood means, then just fucking veil me and sew up all my holes."
