Narrowing the field of view

It sounds like something straight out of 1984, but restrictions on the freedom of panorama - the right to take and use photos of public buildings and spaces - are an ominous possibility. These restrictions already exist in France and Belgium, and there are proposals afoot in the EU parliament to extend them to the rest of Europe. Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales is sufficiently perturbed by the developments that he's urging people to sign a petition protesting against the move, and - while it would rid the world of photos of tourists pretending to prop up the Leaning Tower of Pisa - so am I.
