Before coming across this article, I'd never heard of Doel - a Belgian town that appears to be in slow, terminal decline but whose remaining residents are resolute, and that has (for better or for worse) gradually become an urban art gallery boasting exhibits by some of the world's finest street artists. It would be nice to think that the residents might win the war, but sadly there doesn't seem to be much hope.
