The third way

How long before the UK follows Germany's progressive lead in allowing babies born with both male and female sexual characteristics to be registered as neither (i.e. effectively recognising a third gender)? Rather than parents of intersex children being pressured into making a choice one way or the other (which in many cases results in surgery on very young babies), the children themselves will be able to choose. Parents will only be responsible for assigning intersex children gender-neutral names. It's surely the only reasonable, humane course of action if psychological trauma in later life is to be averted, or at least mitigated.
