Slate's Julia Turner has stuck her neck out and ventured that when it comes to word games, Boggle is superior to Scrabble. Not so, I'd suggest, largely on account of all of the tactics involved in Scrabble. Neither does the element of fortune (good or bad) detract from Scrabble's quality - after all, poker is hardly regarded as an inferior card game despite the unknown quantity of the hands dealt. Nevertheless, Turner makes a good case for her claim, and as a fan of both I can certainly appreciate the merits of each and would be very disappointed if Boggle were to disappear, leaving only a virtual online simulacrum.
Needless to say, the article has had the unfortunate consequence of both inspiring me to throw myself back into online Scrabble but also to discover the Boggle equivalent, Prolific. Yet more time spent at the computer coalface, then...
